At first, we almost could not believe it, when our buddy Max Krefeld told us that he was involved in a production of a track with Ari Up from The Slits. We had always been big fans of The Slits and of the entire time period, when Dub Reggae and Punk Rock inspired each other. So, we were super eager to hear the track and the result gave us a shiver: A modern dancehall-infused track with a crisp production of Ari’s distinctive vocal performance. However, it took a few years until this breath-taking production came into being.

Initially, it was the idea of House of Wallenberg aka Petter Wallenberg, a Stockholm-based music producer and songwriter, to track down Ari Up in Jamaica. He had also been a long-time fan of The Slits and loved Ari’s exceptional voice. When The Slits came to Stockholm, Petter and Ari Up finally met after a couple of long-distance calls between Sweden and Jamaica. After that, it just took another get-together in London to produce the gem of “Sunshine Taboo”. House of Wallenberg—a true genius of collaboration—asked Max Krefeld to join Ari and him and together they produced the song in Max’s London apartment.

We are very grateful to now have this opportunity to release this diamond on a special 7” with an exclusive Dub Version of the song in the memory of Ari Up.

“Mountains bites like snake! Those ketamine-induced drum sounds and synth wobbles seem to have traversed into the neo-cosmic scene but I’m sure we’re not about to see lot of over 30s with long beards stumbling about trying to locate their shoes. Even so Mountains is pretty damn druggy I have to say. Its synth lines envelop and are constantly modulating throughout while the percussion rasps against the senses. Before long some pretty psychedelic moans and groans and bleeps are introduced to the mix making for a totally intoxicating listen.
“She Sighed” is just as hypnotic, not a million miles away from some of Four Tet’s recent productions – that whole organic electronics vibe with subtle vocal manipulation which screams of future ballads and love songs from another planet.
“Even Now” concludes the set totally blissful fashion. Glistening arpeggios cascade through the mix like crystaline fragments joy while the enveloping pads hug like velvet. The infectious drums just roll on and on while a deep low rumble holds us down to the ground and stops us floating off on some euphoric bubble. A brilliant sunset / sunrise track for the forth coming Summer months.
Most recommended.”

Midnight Magic are back and spread their fairy dust one more time to enchant you. After last year’s “Beam Me up“ single which speaks the universal language of dance music and became almost like an anthem of the second heydays of Disco played by everybody from Harvey to the Ed Banger posse the band gives us their second single “Drop Me A Line“.
Once again it has all the ingredients we love so much from the infectious bassline to the whirly keyboards and the uplifting horns to the captivating vocals by. The original is backed up by a massive remix package by no other than Holy Ghost!, Steffi, Juan MacLean (digital only) and Mano Le Tough.

Tensnake: great package !
Joakim: i like that mano le tough remix!
Soul Clap: all about the mano. he’s so tuff. big time party vibes!
Darshan Jesrani: I would play the Holy Ghost mix. It’s pretty great. Almost more suited to Tiffany’s vocal than the original version. And that piano part is nuts, it’s like Bruce Hornsby dancing with Bobby Orlando in a sweaty gay disco in Rimini.
Ewan Pearson: the steffi mix is great!
Pilooski: Me like it a lot!
Snuff Crew: We have been big fans of “Beam me up” (and still love it so much). Now Midnight Magic catches us again with their music and we really fall in love with “Drop Me A Line”. What a great song! The remixes are also very cool!
ND Baumecker: Killer !
