HOUSE OF WALLENBERG feat ARI UP: SUNSHINE TABOO

093-1 cover

At first, we almost could not believe it, when our buddy Max Krefeld told us that he was involved in a production of a track with Ari Up from The Slits. We had always been big fans of The Slits and of the entire time period, when Dub Reggae and Punk Rock inspired each other. So, we were super eager to hear the track and the result gave us a shiver: A modern dancehall-infused track with a crisp production of Ari’s distinctive vocal performance. However, it took a few years until this breath-taking production came into being.

Initially, it was the idea of House of Wallenberg aka Petter Wallenberg, a Stockholm-based music producer and songwriter, to track down Ari Up in Jamaica. He had also been a long-time fan of The Slits and loved Ari’s exceptional voice. When The Slits came to Stockholm, Petter and Ari Up finally met after a couple of long-distance calls between Sweden and Jamaica. After that, it just took another get-together in London to produce the gem of “Sunshine Taboo”. House of Wallenberg—a true genius of collaboration—asked Max Krefeld to join Ari and him and together they produced the song in Max’s London apartment.

We are very grateful to now have this opportunity to release this diamond on a special 7” with an exclusive Dub Version of the song in the memory of Ari Up.
